InsectoSec® contains 100 % diatomaceous earth, a natural amorphous diatomite extracted from the fossil deposits of diatoms. There are no known negative effects on the birds themselves so the product can be used in coops with animals being present.
InsectoSec® has a strong dehydrating impact on the poultry mite and other crawling insects like woodlice and ants. InsectoSec® is applied to the insects’ preferred hiding places and travel routes. When they come into contact with the silica dust it settles on their cuticles and dissolving out the protective waxy layer which prevents moisture evaporation. The insects dehydrate and die within few hours.
