Rapax AS is a recently registered formulation in aqueous concentrated suspension. The liquid formulation allows easy handling and immediate solubility thanks to the co-formulants of natural origin with a wetting action, which improve their distribution in the field, enhancing their effectiveness on the surfaces most covered with waxes, as in the case of bunches of grapes. moths or in many horticultural crops. Among the most common targets we can list the vine moths, the tomato moth, the embroiderers of the pome fruit, the citrus and olive moths and the forestry defoliators. B.thuringiensis kurstaki is a gram-positive, mobile and ubiquitous bacterium in all soils. The peculiarity of B. thuringiensisis that of having the ability, under certain conditions, to produce a parasporal body of protein origin (called crystal) inside the spore containing deltaendotoxin, a toxic protein for various species of insects, especially Lepidoptera. Once ingested by the larvae, the protein crystal reaches the middle intestine, where it breaks down into other protein units thanks to the action of specific enzymes due to the effect of the alkaline pH. The toxins thus released bind to specific receptors in the intestine of the larvae in which they determine the loss of functionality of the epithelial cells. This causes the immediate paralysis of the intestinal and buccal apparatus of the larva, which quickly ceases to feed.

B.thuringiensis kurstaki acts ONLY by ingestion. It is essential to wet the crop to be protected well and uniformly and carefully monitor the development of the target phytophagous population through monitoring traps, forecasting models and field observations. The greatest efficacy is against 1st and 2nd age larvae which, thanks to their small size and high trophic activity, quickly ingest the lethal dose of Bt. interventions after 7 days. If necessary (prolonged flight of the insect with consequent scalar hatching of the eggs), perform a 3rd intervention after a further 7-10 days.
